A native of Portugal, Joao’s artistry began at Mass College of Art studying painting and ended as a bona fide hair sculptor with a flair for shag styles. Taking the shape and features of each client’s face into consideration, Joao loves the challenge of transforming a person’s look. This is done by bringing different cuts from the past and bringing them to the cutting edge of style.

Joao has trained extensively with John Dellaria in Boston and Tony & Guy in New York, and has taught hair cutting, finish work, and other techniques at various salons and schools in Boston. His work has been featured in magazines and on magazine covers, has styled the hair for the cast of the “Chicago” musical and has worked on assorted Hollywood types.

Joao enjoys an active lifestyle of swimming, cycling and boating in the summer while perfecting his guitar skills year round. He travels extensively with his wife Susan, when he can take the time.
